We'll be providing the music for the Sunday service at Unity of North Kitsap, the title is "Living in the Eye of the Political Storm. Here's what Rev Karen Hamilton says about the service:

As you listen to debates and the media coverage of this year’s presidential campaigns, do you ever wonder, “What in the world is going on and how can I possibly stay centered in Spirit during all of it?”  These are great questions to ask and today we will explore them from a Unity perspective. While we may not have all the answers, we will at least create a new way of moving through the final months leading up to November and a way to make a clear, conscious personal choice on Election Day.

We’ll wrap up our lesson reviewing a powerful prayer technology and how it helps us in living the life we were sent here to live!

Golden Rule Peace Boat - 7-9pm
700 NE Lincoln Road
Poulsbo, Washington 98370
3607792915
Price: free
Golden Rule Peace Boat to Arrive in Poulsbo. The story of the Golden Rule and its current mission will be the subject of a program at the Poulsbo branch of Kitsap Regional Library on Tuesday, June 28, from 7-9pm. The event will include a video, a talk by crew members, one of whom, Tom Rogers, of Keyport, is a retired nuclear submarine commander, and music by the folk duo Hank and Claire.

In 1958, the Golden Rule and her crew of Quaker peace activists attempted to sail into the U.S. nuclear bomb test zone in the Marshall Islands.  They were stopped by the U.S. Coast Guard in Honolulu, where they were arrested and jailed.  Another American family carried on their mission and successfully sailed the Phoenix of Hiroshima into the Marshall Islands nuclear test zone. Worldwide publicity helped spur international opposition to atmospheric nuclear testing and led to the 1963 signing of Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty by the United States, Britain and the Soviet Union.

Six years ago the Golden Rule was pulled up from the bottom of Humboldt Bay on the northern California coast.  After five years of renovation by Veterans For Peace and scores of volunteers, the 34-foot wooden ketch is sailing once more.  With her burnt red sails emblazed with a large white peace sign and the Veterans For Peace logo, the Golden Rule is sailing throughout the Pacific Northwest this summer, sounding the alarm about the continuing dangers posed by nuclear weapons, nuclear power, and fossil fuels.

“We are sailing for a nuclear-free world,” says Golden Rule project manager, Helen Jaccard. “We are sailing for a peaceful, sustainable future.”

For more information on the Poulsbo event call 360 265 1589 or 206-499-1220.

Taking risks is always...well, risky.  But as Rabindranath Tagoree wrote, "You can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water."  Claire Favro, with assistance from Hank Payne, recounts her own journey into crisis, community, and the healing power of music which led her to Hank and the new life they are creating together.  Hank and Claire come to us from Poulsbo, where they live with two cats, guitars, dulcimers, bowed psaltery, and a great deal of music-making, some of which they will share with us during the service.  Through words and songs, they invite us to reflect upon the risks we have taken that opened possibilities, and the risks and possibilities that are still to come.

This is one of our favorite musical events every year. One of Hank's original songs is a finalist in the songwriting contest, so we'll be performing for that on Saturday close to 5pm. We'll be singing on the Far West stage on Sunday morning from 11-11:45am...yes, we'll be there even if we stay up till midnight jamming the night before. Then on Sunday evening, we're singing in the final concert of the weekend. There are 5 stages and all kinds of marvelous acoustic live music both Saturday and Sunday. Jams pop up in hotel lobbies and in the park. All of this on the banks of the Columbia River under magnificent shade trees.  Come stay in one of the hotels right on the edge of the park and share this fantastic event with us!
